I chose to enter the field of adult and
continuing education because, having undergone cataclysmic changes in
both my personal and professional lives, I know how frightening change can be. I began my adult life as a teenage mother, for example, and I lost my job as a
journalist during the industry’s downsizing.
My husband I were both raised in poverty; he was the child of hard-working family dairy farmers, and I was a child of divorce and welfare. We pulled ourselves, and our children, out of poverty through hard work and education. It was never easy. But education made it possible.
Once we started, we couldn’t stop! Between us, we have several professional certifications, a technical diploma, an associate degree, two bachelor’s degrees, and two master’s degrees. We learned how to navigate the world of higher education, and I would like to help others make their way.
In other words: I came to love school as adults, and I wish you the same quality experience!
